LYNYRD SKYNYRD
CREATIVE DIRECTION + CONTENT CREATION
We have been working with Lynyrd Skynyrd now for 7 years handling a variety of creative tasks. Some of the projects have included capturing tour photography across 12 countries, having photographs published in a world renowned music magazine, creating interview content used for National Television stations, producing and directing a short documentary airing in 1,200 theaters around the United States, and having photographs published in Lynyrd Skynyrd's most recent Live DVD bundle.
Amongst all things, we have been lucky enough to provide Creative Direction for the bands graphics during their live concert performances. One of our favorite pieces was created to educate the fans of the history in a quick, fun way and to celebrate the 50 incredible years of Lynyrd Skynyrd Music.
PROJECT: ANNIVERSARY
We were tasked with creating a brand new Tour Intro video for Lynyrd Skynyrd's 50th Anniversary Tour. This project was particularly special because of the trust placed in us with such a massive story to tell. Our challenge was to create a piece that shared key moments from every single decade of the bands history since day one, all while appealing to three different generations of Skynyrd fans.
We spent 6 weeks digging through the original archives dating back to 1976, scanning VHS tapes, and seeking proper permissions. This piece plays in front of roughly 8,000 people 60+ nights a year.
DSCA is made up of great people that care about others and as far as the work goes, it is fantastic. They can make anything look great in any situation. It has been wonderful working with them on Hell House Whiskey and Lynyrd Skynyrd Projects. I am highly recommending them to anyone who is looking to hire a creative team.
Johnny Van Zant , Lead Singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd
A large part of this working relationship has been understanding. In the history of Lynyrd Skynyrd, there has never been a regular touring photographer with the band. As the organization nears it's possible last few years, the Lynyrd Skynyrd team felt it was imperative to properly document the tour.
Above is a short documentary, written and Directed by DSCA Creative Director Doltyn Snedden, which aired as a prelude to the "Last of the Street Survivors - Live" DVD. This movie was shown Nationwide in over 1,200 theaters and sold in all mainstream retail and electronic stores in the United States.
To the right is a Skynyrd feature in Classic Rock Magazine where Doltyn was named the youngest published Classic Rock Magazine photographer of the year at just age 24.
CONCLUSION
The Lynyrd Skynyrd organization has treated us as family, and we have done the same in return. We believe that the magic in our work with this band and all related ventures has come from the trust acquired along the way. We are honored to have had this opportunity and hope that this project stands as a testament to the passion and personal responsibility that we feel with every project that we are involved in.
